Don joined Spire Capital in 2006 as the Chief Financial Officer/Chief Compliance Officer. Don is responsible for the firm’s fund administration, investor relations, compliance and works closely with each of the portfolio companies’ financial and accounting teams. Don also manages the accounting due diligence at Spire for prospective investments.

Prior to joining Spire, Don was the Chief Financial Officer at Iron Oak Development, a mid-Atlantic real estate investment firm, with responsibilities including planning, developing and implementing all financial controls and reports in connection with the investment entities. Prior to Iron Oak, Don spent eight years as CFO/COO of Specialty Brands, a private-equity backed consumer company. Additionally, Don spent fifteen years as Regional Controller at Wawa Food Markets in both operational and financial roles.

He graduated from Widener University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Don serves as a Director of On Campus Marketing.

Don juggles life with kids who play high school varsity lacrosse, field hockey, basketball and soccer. Don is a 4-4 fan on the Philadelphia sports scene and loves vacationing with his family at the Jersey shore.

David joined Spire Capital in 2001 as an Associate and was named a Partner in 2012. At Spire, David focuses on sourcing and leading transactions in the education, technology/software services and media/entertainment sectors. Prior to joining Spire, David served as an Analyst in the Financial Sponsors Group at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc. While at Bear, Stearns & Co, David focused on M&A advisory and capital markets’ activity as part of the portfolio coverage teams for private equity firms with investments in technology, communications and media.

David received a BS in Business from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and majored in Finance with a minor in Economics.

David is currently a Director of NetFortris and Surgent Professional Education. He previously served as a Director of Rainbow Early Education Holdings, Just Marketing International, Professional Bull Riders and Ariston Global.

Vice President

Karl is a Vice President at Spire Capital, where he is responsible for transaction sourcing, executing new investments and portfolio company management.

Prior to joining Spire, Karl was a Vice President at Dubin Clark & Company, a private equity group investing in middle market companies. During his two years at Dubin Clark, Karl helped acquire four new investment platforms, close and integrate over ten add-on acquisitions, refinance a number of portfolio companies, and successfully divest one portfolio investment. Karl played an active role on the Board of Directors for a number of Dubin Clark portfolio companies. Prior to Dubin Clark, Karl worked for The Riverside Company and Harris Williams & Co. Inc.

Karl received an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and a BA, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University, where he majored in Economics and minored in Corporate Strategy.

Karl is a Board Director at NetFortris and a Board Observer at On Campus Marketing and Veraction.

Karl is an avid outdoorsmen who enjoys fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking with his wife and Vizsla.

Anthony D. Cassano

Anthony joined Spire Capital in February 2009 and served as a Vice President and Principal before becoming a Partner in 2017. Anthony plays an active role in sourcing transactions, executing new investments and working alongside portfolio company investments at Spire.

Prior to joining Spire, Anthony was an investment banker in Citigroup’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. While at Citigroup, Anthony worked with financial sponsors and Fortune 500 corporations across numerous industries. He advised clients on leveraged buyouts, hostile takeovers, takeover defenses, sellside auctions, and buyside and sellside negotiated transactions.

Anthony’s work experience also includes five years in Ernst & Young’s Assurance and Advisory Business Services division where he focused primarily on companies within the Technology, Communications and Entertainment practice.

He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a Bachelors of Business Administration from James Madison University. Anthony earned his Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) designation in 2000.

Anthony is a Director of Vector Media Inc., On Campus Marketing, Inc. and Surgent Professional Education. Anthony was also formerly a Director of Performance Assessment Network, Inc., Velocity Technology Solutions, Inc. and served as a Board observer at Certiport, Inc. and Skymall, Inc.

Outside of work Anthony enjoys coaching his son and daughter’s sports teams, Dallas Cowboy football, golfing, running and eating his wife’s home cooking.
