Encoda Systems Acquires Arkemedia Technologies

Companies to Aggressively Develop Seamless Digital Asset Management

Solution for Broadcast and Media Industry Workflow Integration

7/12/2004

Denver, CO — Encoda Systems, Inc. announced today that it has acquired Arkemedia Technologies, Ltd., a UK-based digital asset management (DAM) solution provider specifically focused on the media industry. The acquisition expands Encoda’s leadership in providing end to end broadcast and agency solutions by enabling the company’s customers to leverage the powerful workflow capabilities of Arkemedia’s suite of DAM solutions.

The acquisition will tighten product synergies by accelerating the integration of

Arkemedia DAM capabilities within Encoda’s full suite of Media

Management, Automation and Agency product offerings. Collaboration of

development activities between the two companies has been ongoing for the past year. At the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam last September, the

companies demonstrated an integrated solution combining Arkemedia’s

digital asset management tools with Encoda’s broadcast automation and

program management solutions. The first product available for general customer release, a dynamic integration between the Encoda D-Series broadcast automation solution and Arkemedia’s advanced DAM database, content ingest manager and workflow functionality, is currently being readied for introduction at IBC, September 9-14, in Amsterdam.

Don Doctor, Chairman of the Board, Encoda Systems stated, “Strategically for Encoda Systems, the addition of Arkemedia allows us to extend our leadership in

media management, automation and agency solutions by providing our

customers a truly effective integrated digital asset management

capability that aids global sales, marketing, syndication, distribution

and delivery of content.”

Doctor continues, “It is extremely difficult to tap into the revenue benefits of a DAM solution without tightly integrating it into the other key applications along the

digital media supply chain, such as program management and transmission

automation systems. With the Arkemedia acquisition, Encoda is now

uniquely positioned to offer our customers a genuinely seamless

integration.”

Encoda Systems brings to Arkemedia a global sales and support

organization and access to Encoda’s extensive research and technology

development capabilities. “There are terrific synergies between Encoda

Systems and Arkemedia Technologies. We are extremely pleased to be

joining a company committed to the media industry and focused on

bringing to market innovative solutions that deliver a tangible return

on investment.” commented Vincenzo Roberti, founder and CEO, Arkemedia Technologies. Roberti further pointed out that Encoda will facilitate faster growth of Arkemedia’s product portfolio and will provide improved service to existing and new Arkemedia clients.

Arkemedia Technologies will operate as a separate line of business within the Encoda group of companies under the continued leadership of Vincenzo Roberti. Terms of the transaction were not released.

Encoda’s acquisition of Arkemedia comes at a time when media companies are

searching for improved methods to leverage the revenue potential of an

increasing volume of content and material. Current and prospective

Encoda customers serve to gain the following benefits from the merging of technologies developed by the two companies:

  • the ability to centralize data stores
  • worldwide access/collaborative operations using a browser user interface at the desktop
  • superior material version control, reducing mistakes through metadata serialization
  • multiple touch points into the material database, enabling

contextual material searches from within any department based on the

    user’s role and specific needs

  • superior security, such as restricting access to high resolution files to only authorized users
