Miranda Technologies, Encoda Systems, SignaSys, Pinnacle Systems,
New York, NY — Miranda Technologies, Encoda Systems Inc., SignaSys Inc., Pinnacle Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: PCLE), and TANDBERG Television today announced that the Centralized Broadcasting Group has expanded with the incorporation of compression and transport technology and systems expertise provided by new group member TANDBERG Television. The Centralized Broadcasting Solutions Group, formed in early 2001, brings together leading equipment and service providers whose specialities encompass the major components required for centralized operations, and addresses challenges faced by station groups and networks in implementing centralized broadcasting models.
TANDBERG Television joins Miranda, Encoda, SignaSys, and Pinnacle Systems in working to understand the new challenges station groups and networks face in setting up and running centralized television operations with systems comprised of equipment from multiple vendors. In this non-exclusionary arrangement, the five companies bring their expertise to bear on the formulation of highly interoperable solutions, by collaborating to adapt each individual system element to the others, perform interoperability testing, and create solution templates for a variety of architectures. Each company continues to work with other manufacturers while bringing its resources to the table with the overall goal of providing well-adapted solutions for centralized broadcasting.
“In working with other members of this group, we’ve all made significant steps in realizing our shared initiative of developing interoperable solutions for networks and broadcast groups,” said Al Kovalick, CTO for the Broadcast Solutions Group of Pinnacle Systems. “The new demands of shared station ownership and the changes taking place with the transition to digital television have fueled the industry’s move toward centralized operations. The models we’re developing and testing now will enable broadcast operations to deploy streamlined broadcast solutions while trimming operation costs.”
Together, Miranda, Encoda, SignaSys, Pinnacle Systems, and TANDBERG Television offer a wide range of expertise and the broad perspective necessary to address further developments of centralized broadcast models. The contribution of each group member is as follows:
• Miranda’s contribution includes multi-image monitoring, a wide variety of routing and interfacing equipment, as well as on-air presentation switching and branding.
• Encoda provides single- and multi-channel automation with traffic and asset management.
• SignaSys is a system integrator with broad experience in centralized broadcasting and multi-channel broadcasting system deployment. SignaSys provides application consultation and case analysis as well as system design and integration.
• Pinnacle Systems provides a complete solution for networked video servers and content distribution.
• TANDBERG Television provides video, audio, and data compression systems as well as interfacing, transmission, and network monitoring solutions.
Centralized broadcasting involves the linking of multiple stations over a given geographic region. Depending on the degree of centralization, the stations either are run from a single facility with centralized playout or, in a distributed approach, incorporate store-and-forward content distribution and remote automation. The consolidation of broadcast systems offers cost savings while also facilitating collaboration between multiple sites.
The Centralized Broadcasting Solutions Group will exhibit at the 143rd SMPTE Technical Conference and Exhibition, November 4-7 at the Hilton New York (Booth #180), and companies within the group will be available at their individual booths – Miranda (142/143/144), Encoda (178/179), and TANDBERG Television (103/104).
